This year about fifty law schools applied. We invited twenty. The four semifinalists from the previous year's Competition, the Alternates from last year's Competition, and occasionally a school that needs a long lead-time to get permission or funding, are invited. Thereafter, the Competition endeavors to achieve geographic balance and at the same time give preference to those schools which have not competed in the Competition before, or which have waited the longest to be invited again.
